James H. Elliott, Jr. joined Richardson Plowden in 2012 as a shareholder in the Charleston office. He focuses his practice in general litigation, professional liability, construction law, products liability, and insurance defense. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Elliott was a licensed insurance adjuster, handling property and casualty claims. While attending law school, he clerked at the South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation.

Mr. Elliott has extensive experience in civil trial practice as well as experience in appellate practice. He has tried over 50 cases to verdict and has handled numerous appellate matters. His additional experience includes:

  • Recovery of $675,000 for Plaintiffs in Construction Defect cases in 2012-2013. 
  • Lead counsel in successful defense of international tire manufacturer in automobile rollover case. 
  • Summary Judgment dismissal of automobile air bag component manufacturer in catastrophic injury litigation. 
  • Obtained dismissal of client in antitrust class action in federal court in which total damages exceeded $40,000,000. 
  • Successfully defended Homeowners Association gaining dismissal of class action and derivative action for breach of fiduciary duty in which damages allegedly exceeded $10,000,000. 
  • Obtained defense verdicts in jury trials for asbestos manufacturer.
