Cameron D. Berthelsen joined Richardson Plowden in the Charleston office in 2021. Mr. Berthelsen focuses his practice in General Litigation and Construction Law.

Mr. Berthelsen has considerable experience with construction defect matters. He has represented contractors across all major trades in litigation. He works with several clients on asbestos matters, HOA cases, contract formation, and lien handling. Most recently he won a motion for a summary judgment in a multi-million dollar Myrtle Beach Condominium case in which the sprinkler system malfunctioned, damaging the property with thousands of gallons of water.

With a Masters in Business Administration, Mr. Berthelsen has the unique ability to understand complex business issues that companies often face during high-stakes litigation matters. His knowledge of business contracts, operational standards, and employment regulations provides clients with confidence and peace of mind that their case is in good hands. It is thanks to this experience that Mr. Berthelsen is also capable of resolving matters swiftly and efficiently, without sacrificing quality or prolonging expensive and unnecessary litigation.

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Berthelsen worked as an associate attorney at another Louisiana law firm where he focused on construction defect law, insurance defense, and personal injury. During his practice there, Mr. Berthelsen represented a public housing agency in an arbitration. Mr. Berthelsen showed the housing’s general contractor failed to construct proper fire-stopping measures, which awarded his client $10 million.

Mr. Berthelsen also served as a law clerk at the Eastern District of Louisiana Public Defender’s Office. He earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane University while simultaneously earning his Master of Business Administration. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in 2011 from Virginia Tech University.

During law school, Mr. Berthelsen received the CALI Award in Mergers & Acquisitions. He was also a Moot Court Intraschool competition finalist. Mr. Berthelsen is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Louisiana Bar.
