F. Heyward Grimball joined Richardson Plowden in the Charleston office in 2015. He focuses his practice on construction law, general litigation, insurance defense, subrogation, and general representation of small and medium size business entities. While studying for a joint degree in Law and International Business, Mr. Grimball participated the Moot Court Bar, the Journal of International Law and Business, and the Moore School’s Consulting Case Competition Team, which placed second at the John Molson School of Business’ International Case Competition in Quebec.
Mr. Grimball’s additional experience includes:
- Drafts and negotiates construction contracts for General Contractors and subcontractors.
- Negotiated Voluntary Dismissal of client by opposing parties of client in multiple complex Construction Defect Cases including one of which the Plaintiffs sought in excess of $5 Million.
- Regularly litigates complex contractual disputes and insurance coverage issues for contractors in multi-family and single family construction defect litigation.
- Represents clients in complex, multi-party construction defect cases with $1 – 100 Million in dispute.
- Negotiated/Litigated Tax Disputes between taxpayers and the IRS
- Assists Homeowners and building owners in investigating construction performance issues, deciding whether or not to file construction defect litigation, in prosecuting construction defect litigation against contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals, and in coordinating repairs.
- Represents Small and Medium sized Business Entities in business disputes and litigation.
- Negotiated nominal settlement for client in complex business dispute involving claims of fraud and breach of contract in excess of $100,000.00 in damages demanded.
- Serves as general outside counsel for Small to Medium sized Business Entities.
- Negotiated a nominal settlement for a client with a default judgment for fraud in excess of $1 Million.
- Successfully Defended client from ‘existential threat’ type targeted litigation (which put at least one other defendant out of business) with ~66.67% dismissal w/o settlement
- Successfully defended Motion for Pre-judgment attachment in seven-figure lawsuit saving client from breach of multi-million dollar forbearance agreement.
- Lead attorney for negotiation of a purchase agreement for the sale of a $1+ Million apartment complex
- Conducted “Blue Sky” analysis for FACTA compliance for a Wine Hedge Fund based in the Carribean.
