Hunter W. Adams is a shareholder with Richardson Plowden and is based in the Columbia office. His practice areas include: Construction Law; General Litigation; Insurance Coverage; Government Liability; and Insurance Defense.  Mr. Adams joined Richardson Plowden in 2021. He practices in both North and South Carolina.

Mr. Adams has successfully represented clients at all stages of litigation: from pre-suit evaluation through trial. He has obtained defense verdicts at trial and favorable rulings on dispositive motions, including motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment. His litigation experience includes representing insurers, corporate entities,  governmental entities,  construction companies, and property owners. Mr. Adams also regularly assists insurers with coverage disputes including coverage analyses, bad faith claims, and declaratory judgment lawsuits. He also counsels construction entities and property owners in contract negotiations, risk management, and disputes involving mechanics’ liens, notice and opportunity to cure, and related statutory remedies.

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Adams worked as an associate attorney at another Columbia law firm. He earned his Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., cum laude in 2017. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in 2014 from the College of Charleston Honors College. During law school, Mr. Adams obtain CALI awards in Contracts, Secured Transactions, and Wills, Trusts, & Estates. He also served as a Dean’s Fellow, a position awarded to select students to work directly with a professor as a research assistant. Mr. Adams also served as a student attorney where he directly represented clients as a law student.

Mr. Adams is a member of the South Carolina Bar, North Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar Association, DRI, and South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association.
